The Interim Board of The Foggy Bottom/ West End Aging in Place Project today announced the results of a neighborhood survey confirming strong interest in forming a Foggy Bottom & West End Village comparable to those already established in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.
A “Village” is a membership organization that provides services and expertise that residents need to live safely and comfortably in their own homes throughout their lives.
Over the past year the Interim Board studied the demographics of the Foggy Bottom & West End neighborhoods, explored business models, compiled best practices used by successful well-established Villages, and most importantly, surveyed the residents of over 60 neighborhood condos, apartments, and co-ops, and over 170 single family homes.
The survey results show that a majority of respondents are interested in joining, using, and/or volunteering for the soon-to-be established Foggy Bottom & West End Village.
The Interim Board will present its findings and conduct a Q & A session at the Foggy Bottom Association monthly meeting scheduled for February, 28, 2012, at St. Stephen Martyr Church Parish Hall, 25th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW — social at 7:00 p.m. and meeting at 7:30 p.m. Interested parties are urged to attend. The Board’s final recommendations will be published in the first quarter of 2012.
Pastor Monroe Wright, Chair of the Interim Board, thanked his fellow Board members and all those who took the time to complete the survey. “We have taken an important step by confirming the need and interest of our community in establishing a Village. I look forward to working with this Board and a future Board to develop a model that will allow us to implement our current vision and address the needs of our community.”
