Arts in Foggy Bottom

Arts in Foggy Bot­tom is a project of the Foggy Bot­tom Asso­ci­a­tion, a pri­vate non-profit 501© 3 orga­ni­za­tion founded in 1959. The Arts in Foggy Bottom goals are to: (1) enrich the cul­tural envi­ron­ment of the Foggy Bot­tom com­mu­nity by pro­vid­ing expo­sure to the visual arts, espe­cially sculp­ture; (2) cre­ate edu­ca­tional oppor­tu­ni­ties for res­i­dents, non-residents and stu­dents as they relate to the visual arts; (3) draw the atten­tion of peo­ple who live out­side of Foggy Bot­tom to this unique, historically-significant res­i­den­tial neigh­bor­hood; and (4) cre­ate a cat­a­lyst for ener­giz­ing and con­nect­ing the busi­ness, edu­ca­tional, and res­i­den­tial com­mu­ni­ties of Foggy Bot­tom and the adja­cent areas.

The Arts in Foggy Bot­tom has mounted four outdoor sculpture exhibits (2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014) in the His­toric Dis­trict of Foggy Bot­tom in Wash­ing­ton, DC. The major sponsor of the exhibits has been the Foggy Bottom Association Defense and Improvement Corporation.

Our Lead­er­ship
Arts in Foggy Bot­tom was orga­nized and is man­aged by three Co-Directors, Jacque­line Lemire, Jill Nevius, and Mary Kay Shaw. They are assisted by an Advi­sory Com­mit­tee which includes Car­olyn Alper, Chas Col­burn, Jean Efron, Dale John­son, Wendy Luke, Fan­chon Sil­ber­stein, Anne Smith, Tracy Van Riper, Louise Weiner, and Helen Zughaib.

Acknowl­edge­ments:
Arts in Foggy Bottom won the Mayor’s Arts Awards for “Innovation in the Arts” in 2009 and is a project of the Foggy Bottom Association. Funding for the 2014 exhibition has been provided by a Planned Unit Development (PUD) amenity from the Hilton Garden Inn at 2201 M Street, NW. Major support for the three prior biennials was from the Foggy Bottom Association Defense and Improvement Corporation.
